My mama’s behavior

So i found out a really interesting story about my mama (through Moussou) which may at least partially explain my mama’s unkind and difficult personality. Apparently about 4 years ago, she was marabouted. See, here in Africa, there are religious leaders called marabouts. Sometimes they just give you prayers and sacrifices to do to obtain certain desired things. And sometimes they make potions to make you achieve your desired end. They seem kind of magical, though it’s hard to believe that they really are.
Anyway, I’d always kind of wondered what happened between my mama and her husband. Well, apparently, she is the second of two wives. About 5 years ago, her husband would spend every day with her. This lasted for over a year, and really bothered the first wife, whom he was thoroughly ignoring. So the first wife had both her husband and my mama marabouted. She put something in her husband’s drink to make him fall out of love with mama and in love with her instead. And she strategically placed things within mama’s house so that her husband would be dissuaded from ever going back there again. So basically, just like that, mama’s husband dropped out of her life. They sometimes cross eachother’s paths on the streets, but nothing but a hello is exchanged. Any yet, mama, being too religious, has never tried to divorce him. So, she is a married women who never sees her husband, and who has to accept that he spends 100% of his time with another women, and that this situation is not natural.
It makes me understand her bitterness a little bit better, at least.
