A Nice, Outdoorsy Weekend (Thank God for SPF 60!!!)

I’ve had a nice weekend. I went horseback riding yesterday AND this morning, and I am actually getting better! I have been riding the same horse since my first ride and we are starting to bond. His name is Rebecca’s Son and he used to be a race horse before he was injured. Now, he is a very gentle, obedient and patient horse. I am the first inexperienced rider he has had to deal with – which I am told is difficult for many race horses – but he has been wonderful and I really like him. Yesterday, he even gave me a good cuddle and today when I put him back in his paddock, he watched me walk away for several minutes. Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but I think he has taken a liking to me. I’ll have to get a picture of myself with him, but for now, the two horse-related pictures I’m posting are of the rides I did this weekend. The people in the first shot are the wonderful family that I’ve mentioned spending a good amount of time with, and the horse in the center of the other shot is called Skylight. He comes with us on all our rides but doesn’t get ridden since he hasn’t been “broken” yet. I find him absolutely beautiful, especially watching him gallop along with us freely.
Today after riding, I went to the dam with the family to ride their boat. Some other farm families came to the dam as well and we all had a little barbecue. I got to go on four boat rides, which I LOVE, so I was quite content. Tommy was our boat’s driver, as you can see from the photo.
I’ve also taken a few photos of some of the interesting creatures I encounter on the farm. One photo is of some kind of puffed up male turkey that lives on my compound and is rather intimidating, both to me and the hens. He parades himself around the yard with at least 10 ladies as his entourage, all clucking away. The other photo is of a chameleon that Tommy caught. Every time I go over there, he has caught at least one, which he will keep in the bushes and check on several times a day. He is really quite obsessed with them, but I actually understand his obsession. Holding those chameleons is such a hoot, as they wrap their tails around your fingers. Their features – especially their eyes and claws – are so amazing, and I find myself as interested in the chameleons as Tommy!
Nice weekend!
  • Claire - Hahaha, I miss chameleons, they are so cool. The ones in Malawi and 3 – 4 times bigger.ReplyCancel
