Happy Holidays!

The past two weeks have been very intense and busy. Last week was Christmas Play week at school. This was a very big deal, since the ONLY thing I have been working on with my students since November 1st is the Christmas play. We wrote the script, memorized the lines, made props, and practiced the plays until we knew them like the back of our hands. After a month and a half of hard work, we finally performed them on December 17th. They went well enough, and I think everyone was relieved to have them go off without a hitch. Since then, school has not been in normal session. We watched the older students’ Christmas plays last Thursday and Friday, and this week has been filled with games, demonstrations of the students’ work, and fundraising days. My job, ironically, has been to sell hot dogs for the past 3 days. Not exactly what I signed up for when I agreed to teach English…. but, anyway.
Now, I am officially on vacation!! Tonight I am going out for South Indian food with friends to mark Christmas Eve. Tomorrow morning I am going to make a nice brunch for Muna and Justin, and then will spend the day relaxing by the pool and eating with friends. At about 1am my friend Sahnah, that I visited in NY, will arrive in Bangkok. On Friday afternoon we fly to Phnom Pehn and the next day depart for Siem Riep to visit Anghor Wat. I return to Bangkok on December 31st, and leave the next day for a few days in the islands before returning again to Bangkok on the 4th. I start school again on January 5th.
To those of you reading this, I wish you a most happy and pleasant holidays. I can’t believe I’m missing yet another Christmas with my family and friends…. It doesn’t feel the same here in warm, sunny Bangkok, but it will have to suffice. Much love, I miss you! I’ll be in touch in January to tell you all about my trip!
