The Land of Three Hundred Peaks

Last weekend I had the pleasure of going on a weekend trip with Louis, our first trip just the two of us. We went to a national park four hours south of Bangkok, on the Gulf of Thailand. It was a beautiful place to spend the weekend because it offered camping (what Louis wanted) and beaches (what I wanted).

We arrived there quite late on Saturday night so after a lovely Thai dinner of kale, spicy sour soup, and rice, we put up the tent (10 feet from the ocean), watched the stars, and passed out. The next morning we woke up and had some breakfast, rented a motorcycle, and rode to a beautiful cave in the park. After 20kms we had to walk the rest, which involved a 1 hour hike straight up! It was a good workout, and well worth it because Nakorn Pathom cave was the most beautiful cave I’ve ever seen. It’s actually two large sinkholes at the top of a mountain. As you descend further into the cave, it opens up more and more, until you find yourself in an incredibly large and spectacular section of the cave. There is a little temple there and some shrubs growing since the roof of the cave is occasionally open to the sky. We spent a long time in there wandering around and soaking it up.
The next morning, we kayaked for over an hour to reach an island off the coast where there are a lot of monkeys. It was a beautiful morning out, a challenging but fun kayak, and a refreshing swim at the island of monkeys. It was a great getaway. Can’t wait to go away with Louis again!
