Much needed update

Wow. I haven’t written in so long it’s hard to know where to start. I know there are many people wondering about the ins and outs of my days, so let’s just start there…
School is wrapping up for the year. And I’ve actually done work this month! November and December, you may recall, were devoted to Christmas plays. And in January, there were several holidays, midterms, scout camp, and sports day, so I didn’t do very much teaching. This month, however, I’ve got the kids working hard. And I’m working hard too – making interesting lesson plans, creating worksheets and activities, marking and starting to calculate grades. I actually feel like a teacher! The kids take their final exam on the 27th and a week after that, they are no longer my students. At the end of March I will teach summer school, and mid-May I am scheduled to begin the new year.
March will be a great month (full of blog entries I’m sure!). I’ve decided to go to Nepal. I will be there from March 4-16th. Muna will be there too, so I will get to stay with her family for a few days! I’ve really missed Nepal this year, and I figure that once I leave Thailand I won’t be in Asia again for a long time, so this is my last opportunity for a while to go back and visit the land I loved.
The day after I return to Bangkok, my mom arrives in town!! She will be with me until April 3rd. The first week she’s in town, we’ll head south to an island to enjoy the tropical weather and beaches. Then, when I start summer school, I’m going to try to send her on a few overnight trips – one to the national park and the other to the ancient city of Ayutthaya. She’ll be in Bangkok again to see my choir concert on April 1st.
The days in Bangkok slip by quickly. I spend them with my cat (who’s fast approaching that age of maturation where he’s going to need to get “that special body part” taken care of). I spend them with Muna, taking turns eating each other’s food. I spend them with friends. I spend them reading in the pool or playing badminton. I spent them in my kitchen on on my small balcony, watering the plants and cooking healthy veggie food. Not a bad life. Comfortable.
Things are likely to get complicated soon, though. I’m supposed to go to grad school (if I get in). I’m supposed to go back to New Brunswick to work at the Green House. I’m also supposed to finish my one year contract here…. hmmmmm….. Stay tuned!
