A Safe Return

I’m baaaccckkkk!!!

It was a long, 41-hour journey, but I finally made it (in one piece and with my luggage!). The flights themselves weren’t bad – what was worse was having to wait for 7 hours in the Moscow airport, and another 16 hours in Delhi! Brutal!! I didn’t sleep much and experienced my first bout of jet lag, which left me feeling dizzy and spacy until this morning.
As soon as I left the airport, I remarked as to how many people and cars were in the street. My first thought was, “There must be a festival going on!” But actually, I had just forgotten that there are ALWAYS a ton of people on the streets – guess a month and a half absence does make a difference in my senses after all!
My apartment was a mess, which I promptly cleaned yesterday. It took me all day, but now it’s so clean that it feels WONDERFUL! I just have to tackle the laundry now – where’s a lanudry machine when you need it?!?
I have an interview today with an organization called INFO Nepal. It places foreign volunteers here in Nepal and they are looking for me to help coordinate and organize these placements. Though I don’t think it’s a paid position, it would nonetheless provide me with some interesting experience, and that, in combination with the libaries that I want to keep building, should keep me plenty occupied.
It was soooooo nice to be home and I owe infinite thanks to my family for that. Spending so much time with my brother and mom, getting to see my dad for two fantastic weekends, having a wonderful visit from my Aunt Louise, hanging out with the Sharples, going boating with the Houldens, and talking to several of my friends was really amazing and special to me. I think it also gave me a renewed perspective and energy to come back here and focus my work. I shan’t be here too long (don’t worry – I’ll be seeing everyone soon) but while I am here, I do want to do as much as possible to contribute (and hopefully do a little traveling too Doka!)
Please keep in touch everyone! Send me emails! It will make me feel ALMOST as though I never left home. 🙂
