Wandering Footsteps: Wandering the World One Step at a Time » A travel journal following a family on their overland trip around the world.

Surprise surprise!

My brain is having a hard time focusing and thinking at the moment. One of our volunteers at INFO Nepal is leaving tomorrow to go to her placement in a remote area in the Everest region. I was asked to accompany her!!! None of our staff has ever been to this area to represent our organization (it’s a brand new placement) so my boss wants me to go and make contact with each of the schools.
So, bright and early tomorrow morning, I will be off! It’s a 4 day journey there – one day bus ride, and 3 days walking. Then I will drop our volunteer off at her placement and proceed to visit 7 different schools over 4-6 days. One other staff member is coming with me to intepret and to guide us (he is a trekking guide). I should be back before the end of the month. But I won’t have email contact while I’m gone – they don’t even have electricity!!!

I must have the best job in the world!!

P.S. Here is what the internet says about Solukhumbu:

Solu-khumbu is the district southwest of mt. Everest. The area is populated by sherpas in its higher parts and tamangs and rais in the lower parts. mt. Everest and several other peaks over 8000m are natural gems in this area. Solu-khumbu is known as the roof of the world. This is the home of mount everest, the highest peak in the world.
