We spent an entire month in the lovely Shenandoah National Park in Virginia’s section of the Appalachian Mountains. Check out the video blog I just uploaded about our time there!

  • Louise Jones-Takata - Vlogs are new to me. Wasn’t sure I would appreciate this. You did a great job and are a f i n e presenter. Keep up the good work! Above all, keep enjoying your lives “On the Road”ReplyCancel

    • Brittany - Thank you Louise, it means a lot that you enjoy them as I know you are one of my most dedicated readers, and I wouldn’t want to disappoint! XxReplyCancel

  • RCS - Grumps likes your vlog…I think the music worked nicely…The Camping Tent is a good tune!
The little squeals from Phoenix on the swing we’re precious.
And of course the cameraman did a wonderful job as well!ReplyCancel

  • Elizabeth s. (Ama Bear) - Thoroughly enjoyed this VLOG! The music you’ve chosen for each segment is perfectly appropriate, from the instrumentals to part of an Okey Dokey Brothers song, The Bare (Bear) Necessities etc. I’m really looking forward to the next one:)ReplyCancel

Since Bruno, Phoenix and I left Canada in Big Blue Bus two months ago, life has been particularly interesting. There have been the challenges of adapting to nomadic life in a bus with a baby, but also the travel experiences of being on the road again. I thought that, maybe, sharing some of these experiences might make for an interesting VLOG… hope I’m right!!

  • RCS - You could have been a movie star…lol.
Bruno held up his role as well!ReplyCancel

  • Elizabeth S - A good start Brittany. I had no idea you were planning on vlogging. Phoenix is decidedly adorable. Bruno is uncharacteristically quiet and looks well, uncomfortable.ReplyCancel

    • Brittany - Hah I crack up every time I see that clip of Bruno!! So unlike him!ReplyCancel

Dommage!!ReplyCancel

If I’d been nervous about bringing our not-quite five month old baby boy, Phoenix, on this mini holiday, I was now, instead, determined. Determined to make the most of this amazing place, to have an unforgettable reunion with my aunt, and to drag Phoenix around as much as needed in order to accomplish this.

  • Louise Jones-Takata - Brittany and Bruno, it was my g r e a t pleasure to meet Phoenix and spend some time with you as a little family! As always Brittany, nice job with your blog.ReplyCancel

    • Brittany - Looking back on our time together with such fond memories! Hope we have the chance to see you in the spring in Florida!! XxReplyCancel

  • Elizabeth S - So glad to finally learn the details of your stay at the Mohonk Mountain House with Louise instead of just snippets. I’m so happy that you had a wonderfully memorable time. Btw, that hallway really reminds me of ‘The Shining’ too.ReplyCancel

    • Brittany - One of my favorite movies, and Louise too! Thanks for letting me watch it when I was, like, 10!!!ReplyCancel

Living in a bus with a baby was a great idea, but now’s the moment of truth. Said baby has arrived, and, at 4.5 months old, he is about to move into Big Blue, our home-on-wheels, and hit the road. I am incredibly anxious about the whole thing. What was I thinking, moving into a 100 square foot space without modern conveniences and hitting the road with a baby?

  • Leontine Leverton - There are two types of door mounting installations; flush mounted and tube frame mounting. While both methods provide ample security, a flush mounted setup provides a more natural look and a better seal since there is no gap surrounding the opening.ReplyCancel

  • Les Brown - Awesome, life is a journey, at home or on wheels. Phoenix is getting started early.
    Love, GrampaReplyCancel

    • Brittany - We have received a ton of comments in campgrounds by people we meet that we are indeed starting early. I love that!!ReplyCancel

  • Les Brown - “Awesome”, life is a journey in one place or on the road..You are special people.
    GrampaReplyCancel

  • E. Sears - I’m incredibly touched by the compliment you made about my mothering:). Just a small clarification; I’m quite certain I said that baby would be happy if he has love and feels secure. Being consistent Is key in fostering the feeling of security as baby, over time, knows what to expect. As I write this, Phoenix is already a full six months old. By now, you’ve realized that parenting involves a lot of trial and error:) You are already a wonderful mom and life on the road with baby is fast becoming the new normal. I’m so happy that you are all adjusting beautifully.ReplyCancel

    • Brittany - If I am a good mom, it’s almost entirely thanks to you. Love you MOM!!ReplyCancel

  • RCS - You seem to be getting the hang of baby travel…and learning to enjoy life on the road again.
I’m sure things will continue to improve and that Phoenix will flourish with the love and consistency that you and Bruno provide!ReplyCancel

    • Brittany - You were right. Must feel good to be right from time to time, haha!!ReplyCancel

  • Nikos & Georgia - You are such a great travelling family & inspiration at the same time. Especially for those who are thinking to follow your steps ;))))) Enjoy your roadtrip, enjoy your A-MA-ZIMG boy, enjoy LIFE.

    All the best.

    Love from PerúReplyCancel

    • Brittany - Thanks for reaching out, guys! Where are you these days!?!?!?ReplyCancel

You asked for it, so here it [finally] is – a detailed tour of Big Blue, our home-on-wheels. A converted 2001 Freightliner shuttle bus designed by yours truly and brought to life with the blood, sweat and tears of one very talented Frenchman!

  • Louise Jones-Takata - I did have the opportunity to take the tour of Big Blue with B & B. I found it to be comfortable and very skillfully designed to meet the needs of the three of you, Bruno, Brittany & Phoenix! Keep on bussing!!ReplyCancel

  • Brittany - Thanks, mom! 🙂ReplyCancel

  • Elizabeth S - Bruno’s impressive self-taught skills, his ingenious problem-solving, and your creativity resulted in a functional yet comfy and very cozy home-on-wheels. Love it! Wow!ReplyCancel

  • Daniel McDougall - Hi Brittany and Bruno

The work on the bus looks excellent. It is amazing how much time, effort and planning go into making things work in a tight space.

The bus looks very comfortable and you should be happy with it.

    DanReplyCancel

    • Brittany - Thank you, Dan! You’re absolutely right that it takes so much planning to make a comfortable home out of such a small space. Good thing we search for sun and warmth and spend most of our time outside, right? We are so happy with the results of our bus, although we already talk about our next vehicle! Crazy, right?

We will be looking forward to hearing about your family adventures starting this fall!ReplyCancel

  • RCS - A very nice tour…all the needs are met in a functional and attractive layout. A great job by both of you. I’m thinking a bed from the ceiling that lowers and raises will work for a Phoenix, not sure if the cab section has the room but it could possibly work?!?ReplyCancel

    • Brittany - I think we are going to try to squeeze Phoenix into his little bed for as long as possible… Bruno seems to have lost his motivation for work, haha!ReplyCancel

  • Lisa Ferris - Following your adventures and growing family is so interesting! I love Big Blue! My parents in the 1970s redid a full size Carpenter snub nose bus into a camper for our family of 7. We traveled for a month each summer. I still love the sound of rain on a tin roof. This reminds me very much of it! Good job; it’s beautiful. My Mom died when we were very young and my Dad continued to take 5 children on month long summer holidays! How we loved our bus; we went all over Canada and experienced things most people only wonder about! What a beautiful life you have created for your little family!
PS-I used to love to sit beside my Dad; as he drove on the motor hump .He had carpeted it ; so that it was a perfect perch for a child to sit on for a talk with Dad! Times were different then (no carseats; no seatbelts!)ReplyCancel

    • Brittany - WOW! Thank you SO much for sharing those memories! Reading your comment only cemented the fact that we have chosen the right life for our little Phoenix. I want him to look back on his youth with happy nostalgia, to have a life rich with experience, and to be a tight-knit family, just as you described! Thank you ever so much for sharing, Lisa!ReplyCancel

  • Lisa Sharples - Oh Brittany …I LOVE BIG BLUE…It looks amazing…so efficient yet so homey. Bruno has done such a great job and should be very proud of himself. You Brittany gave it those special touches that make it such a wonderful home. Congratulations! Wishing all three of you great travels ahead in your wonderful home on wheels.
Love to all of you xoxo

    • Brittany - Thank you Lisa! Do you remember giving me the portrait of an African woman that we hung by the entrance on the side of our gas cooker? It was before I went to Senegal in 2005! So happy it’s going to follow us on our journey!

And yes, SUPER proud of Bruno!ReplyCancel

  • Annette Gaudet - Very nice ! Bravo ! Enjoy !😊ReplyCancel
