Driving in Africa isn’t always as easy as the road-map suggests. There are, after all, many factors to consider – untarred roads, rain and mud – that maps simply cannot take into account. We learned this the hard way in Zambia.

Tag Archives: Road trips – Rain and untarred roads don’t mix in Africa. We learned this the hard way when we decided to head from North to South Tanzania via the road less-traveled. If I learned one thing from the road trip, it’s that I love tar.  Bruno was raring to hit the road after nine nights at a luxury resort. He opted for a hard-to-reach campsite on one of the worst roads I’d seen yet. A stressful situation and one wrong move resulted in a beat-up Toyota. Oops!  We’ve left Uganda. Our goal is the Kenya coast. But that doesn’t mean we can’t have fun along the way. As we drive to Nairobi, we get back into the rhythm of life on the road. It’s good to be nomadic again!  After almost two agonizingly long (and hot) weeks in Windhoek, Bruno and I finally hit the road! Our goal? Reaching the Southern border en route to South Africa, while visiting as many interesting Namibian places as possible on the way.
