My Canadian Summer, in Photos

I’m writing this blog post from Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport.  I’m back on the European continent after having spent almost seven weeks at my family home in eastern Canada.  Maybe it’s the melancholy of an ended chapter, but I’m already looking through photos of my summer and fondly recalling all the wonderful memories I created with people I love.

In my last blog post, I talked about slowing things down in New Brunswick, taking the time to appreciate comfort and stillness rather than the ever-moving, ever-changing nomadic tourist lifestyle I lead the rest of the year.  But that doesn’t mean I did nothing during my summer in Canada.  Far from it, as these photos show.

Maybe this post is more for myself than my readers, so that I will always remember one of my favorite summers ever.  Or maybe it’s for my family and friends, so they know how much this summer has meant to me.

Whatever it is, I’m letting my nostalgia sweep over me.  I’m sharing a few snapshots of my summer on a tiny slice of coast in New Brunswick:

During my summer, I went to kids’ soccer matches.  I tried my hand at soccer.

But I mostly watched.

At least I partook in the family baseball games!  (I’m better at baseball…)

I went to concerts.  I went on a boat ride.  I played board games (and I won).

During my summer, you know that I did a lot of yoga.

You also know that I played in the garden, and then I made garden food. (Yum!)

Maybe you didn’t know that we didn’t always eat healthy garden food, though…

And so, to work off the bad food, I did some kayaking.

During my summer, I played with kids.  I babysat.  I cuddled babies.

I cuddled dogs, too!

During my summer, we welcomed lots of people to the house to share food and stories.

Sometimes the guest was a surprise visitor sent by Bruno!

Sometimes we even had big parties!

Sometimes we got invites to other people’s parties.

Once, we even got invited to a sleepover party!

During my summer, I hung out with cousins.

And talked to faraway cousins on Skype.

During my summer, I hung out a lot at the beach.  I walked it, I swam it (sort of), I sat on it, I talked on it.

There were a few silly moments.

But there were just as many sweet moments.

During my summer, I connected with family, friends, and my native soil.  I created lasting memories that I will cherish forever.  My gratitude to all those who were a part of it is endless.  Thank you.  I miss you already!

Summer may be over, but it can live on in our hearts and minds.  What is YOUR favorite summer memory?  Feel free to share in the comments below!
