This may be my new second-favorite tree (second to the Willow tree of course). It’s the Jacaranda tree and it’s in full bloom here in Zimbabwe.
This tree actually has its origins in Brazil, and is apparently common in some parts of Portugal as well. But I had never seen it before. Until now.
They are EVEYWHERE. Rows upon rows of these violet-colored trees. I find myself staring at them wherever I go. I can’t peel my eyes away from them! I am now so obsessed with the color that I am trying to find fabric in order to have violet pillows, violet cushions, and a violet bedspread! (That might be a bit too much violet!)
Needless to say, I had to take some photos and share this beautiful tree with everyone. The first photo is the jacaranda in the yard of the family that I horseride with. The second is a row of them that I enjoy on the way into Harare, and the third is one of my favorite farm houses on that same drive.
Suzanne & Terry - Thanks for WRITING your blog; I check it every day. It’s such fun. Hugs to Christoph, he looks absolutely adorable.
Brittany - Haha I can tell you all realy enjoyed your plantlife here in Zim (although perhaps from a safe distance!). I’ll keep my eyes open for more beautiful trees/flowers to photograph.
Thanks for reading my blog!
Suzanne & Terry - Oh and soon, the Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow bush, darkish mauve blooms, that fade to pale then to white…strong sweet smell, and I am allergic like mad. Oh, and it’s avocado tree blooms time too. Yum.
Claire - I was just about to say the same thing, “Ah, Jacarandas!”
They are beautiful – I prefer your photos to the real thing because I was allergic to them, so really don’t miss them at all.
Be careful – don’t stand on the fallen blooms. The bees are attracted to them and will sting you if you are only wearing flip flops.
Looking forward to hearing more of your adventures!
xx Claire
Suzanne & Terry - Ah jacarandas, such beautiful things. And they’re late this year, usually they are in bloom in September. They were my treasures.
And there is another flowering tree around the same time, I forget its name, but small basketball sized flowers made up of lots of little flowers in the most fluorescent yellow possible; with a dark dark bark which looks black.
And the chameleon, what luck. Glad you’re having such a good time.
