As most of you know, I leave for Zimbabwe on September 12th. I have been asked to teach a five-year-old child named Christoph for the year. He and his family live on a huge farm (22,000 hectares) about an hour outside of Harare. I will live on this farm with them and help their child become literate and numerate. The opportunity is once-in-a-lifetime: I will stay in my own two-bedroom cottage, have access to a car and maid, and be able to ride horses, do waer activities on their dammed lake, hike, and farm. In addition to my monthly wages, I will be traveling extensively with the family. They have homes in Cape Town, Mozambique, London, and Austria, and they travel extensively throughout Europe and Southern Africa. So as you can see, this was an opportunity I coudn’t refuse!
I plan on starting up this blog again. Some of you, especially my Ottawa acquaintances, are new readers to my blog. Some of you are well-seasoned veterans of this blog and have followed me through Senegal, Nepal, and Thailand. I am hoping that this Zimbabwe chapter will trump previous chapters and will prove to be more entertaining, thoughful, and frequent. So, dear readers, stay tuned as I embark on my upcoming adventure! (Comments always welcome)

SB - Your ability to find seemingly perfect opportunities to enjoy your life is uncanny. I think I would explode and then explode once more if I got to do this for a year.
Anonymous - Do they have McDonald’s or Walmart there?
