Author Archives: It was my first time setting eyes on Lake Malawi. We explored Tanzania’s tip of this infamous lake from a very crooked pirogue. What we found was that we liked the lake – from land!  Rain and untarred roads don’t mix in Africa. We learned this the hard way when we decided to head from North to South Tanzania via the road less-traveled. If I learned one thing from the road trip, it’s that I love tar.  The thing I hate most about East Africa is that their safaris are prohibitively-priced. After six months of not spotting a single safari animal, I was determined to beat the system and get myself an affordable safari. It didn’t work…  Snakes don’t automatically come to mind when I think of dangers I have to face when traveling through Africa. The Maasai of Tanzania, I learned, always have snakes on their brains. |
