Because of fear, we almost didn’t go to Tanzania. I’m glad I did – it was my favorite country in East Africa and afforded me some of my best travel memories so far. Read on for my top seven Tanzanian highlights.
Lake Tanganyika is definitely a bit off-the-beaten track, so when you decide to visit, it’s best to see it more than once. We traveled from the Southernmost to the Northernmost tip to fully wrap our minds around this deepest of African lakes. Here are our impressions of Tanzania’s stretch.
Two days ago I turned thirty. We’d wondered and worried where we would be to celebrate this momentous occasion, but with our nomadic lifestyle, it’s difficult to plan. Chance placed us in Karongi, a town on Rwanda’s stretch of lake Tanganyika. It couldn’t have been a better place to welcome in a new decade!
Victoria Falls might be the most famous waterfall in Zambia, but it’s not the ONLY waterfall worth visiting. Kalambo Falls, on the northern tip of the country, is off the beaten path, allowing for the experience of a single-drop waterfall almost all to yourself.
Leopards. Elusive and solitary. The ultimate goal of any safari-goer. Most are lucky to see one. I have seen seven. In only fifteen months. Surely my luck with leopards has a greater meaning in my life…?
