  • Welcome to Wandering Footsteps, the travel journal of a nomadic family on an overland trip around the world. With thirty years of travel experience, a round-the-world trip already under our belt, a newly-converted bus, and a new baby in tow, this journey is bound to be interesting! Join us in our global wanderings - we've saved an extra seat just for you!

    - Brittany, Bruno, and Phoenix

In between ten-month stints of travel, discovery, and a different view out the window each day, it’s nice to get a bit of stillness, comfort, and routine in my life. That’s what I appreciate most when I return to my parents’ home in New Brunswick, Canada.

  • Elizabeth (Mom) - I am so happy that you love it here in the summer, that it connects you to people you love, and that it grounds you. We cherish every moment that you are with us in our corner of the planet we lovingly call ‘Paradise’.ReplyCancel

    • Brittany - I REALLLLLLY love it in your little corner of paradise, and plan to keep coming home to reconnect and reground myself as long as the corner exists! 🙂ReplyCancel

  • Meaghan - Brit! Love this post… I haven’t been on your blog in ages, I must explore it before school starts. I LOVE IT! Enjoy the time with your parents – looks sooo lovely 🙂 And I wish you all the best on your new adventures!

    • Brittany - Hi Meaghan! It’s SO wonderful to hear from you (both here and on FB). It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy that you like my blog! I like it too! 🙂

I’ve had a fabulous time here in Canada after so many months away. Every year, I appreciate it more at home, I think. But, I’ll be looking forward to getting back on the road in a week or so!

By the way, a friend of mine (Candace Rose Rardon) drew the picture at the head of my blog for me. She’s a super talented sketch artist and travel writer who also keeps a blog. It’s called “The Great Affair” and it’s one of my personal faves!

Have an excellent start to your school year! All the best, and until we meet again!

  • TEMPING - You don’t need many instruments or an excellent funding to create your how-to videos before you begin seeing a return.ReplyCancel

  • Ionia - This means advanced coding is concerned in storing and transmitting cryptocurrency information between wallets and to public
    ledgers.ReplyCancel

  • Kerrie - In transition at midlife, yearning to fulfill 2 dreams: return to at least visit my childhood home in France, and spend 2 years traveling the world.
You and Bruno are an inspiration; I’m happy to have discovered “Wandering Footsteps”!
Are you on social media, like- Facebook?ReplyCancel

    • Brittany - Hi Kerrie, thanks so much for the message! We’re so happy to hear you’re yearning for more, and we both urge you to seize your dreams!! We are on Facebook (Wandering Footsteps) and newly on Instagram (Wandering.Footsteps) and we hope that our stories and photos can help turn inspiration into a catalyst for you!ReplyCancel

  • Elizabeth (Mom) - Congrats to you on your nomination for the Liebster Award! I also enjoyed this read very much and will now check out the other blogs you have mentioned. I look forward to many more years of traveling at your side, armchair style with hopefully some adventures of my own along the way.ReplyCancel

    • Brittany - Thanks for the comment, though I’m sure there weren’t any surprise facts for you mom!ReplyCancel

  • RCS - I think this could rank as one of my favourite reads…you must have been “in the flow”. I don’t know what I liked better: the 11 facts or 11 questions and answers; both very revealing (even tho you are you daughter it was still fun to read and learn what makes you…YOU).ReplyCancel

    • Brittany - It’s funny that this could be your favorite read – maybe it’s a sign that I need to divulge more personal stuff about myself on my blog! Could this be what my other readers are looking for too?ReplyCancel

Montpellier has been voted the number-two French city by French people. I recently spent a week in Montpellier trying to understand why. Between pleasant visits to the old historic town, the multicultural flea market, and the city zoo, though, I experienced things that made me wonder what, exactly, the French love so much about this town?

  • Nikos&Georgia - Brunoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, our friend!!

We wish you the very best, have a fast recovery and get back on the road the soonest possible. So glad that everything worked out with your surgery and Brittany had some time to visit your home town. It must be a unique experience to see your home town without you! Good and bad at the same time 😉

We had a nice walk and a few hours in Montpellier centre in May 2012 on our way to Morocco. We only had nice memories but always local’s viewpoint and experience helps to enjoy a place in its best.

Again, hope you will have a fast recovery and you will be soon back on track. Taxeia anarosi (the wish in Greek)!!

Lots of love from Yukon 😉

    • Brittany - Thank you both for the lovely wishes! Bruno is doing very well, now in France doing lots of work on our Totoyaya to get it back out on the road in top condition! Brittany will be back in France in a few days and we’ll head out soon. Looking forward to being back on the road! 🙂

We both hope you are enjoying Canada very much. We really look forward to seeing any photos or hearing any stories you may have. And we look even MORE forward to getting to see you out there someday soon!

      Adios (for now)

  • RCS - I expect all cities have their unattractive side; methinks it was not sharing the sights with Bruno that had you down.
You couldn’t have eaten anything while you were there because you did not mention food…lol.ReplyCancel

    • Brittany - It’s too expensive to eat in France! 🙂 No, I’m kidding, but I’m guessing it wouldn’t have been too interesting for people to read about how I managed to make some pretty good feasts in the hospital without a fridge or a knife! It’s true! Bruno was eyeing my food with jealousy as he ate his hospital food. Sometimes I shared.

But you’re right. Seeing Montpellier with Bruno would likely have been more fun, if only because he would have shown me all the little nooks and corners he used to hang out and party in back in the day!ReplyCancel

  • eric et valerie - Bonjour les amis voyageurs

all the best for Bruno !!

ReplyCancel

After thirty days, 3,300km, and eight border crossings, our arrival in France marks the end of our overland transit from Turkey. Exhausted yet with hearts and minds full of experiences, we reconnected with family across the country – and celebrated a very, VERY exciting event.

  • Micheline - Moi aussi j’ai observé le regard de Pierrot sur son assiette, et j’ai l’impression que celui de Randy n’aurait pas été très différent s’il avait pu être à sa place….
J’en profite pour vous embrasser tous.
    MichelineReplyCancel

    • Brittany - Ah oui, Randy n’oubliera jamais sa visite a la table d’Emilie! Je viens de voir que je n’ai pas de photo de toi sur ce blog – il va falloir que j’en ajoute une!
On vous fais tous une bise Canadienne! A bientot!ReplyCancel

  • Rcs - Table d’Emilie food is amazing…the proof is written in Pierrot’s face as he imagines his first bite.ReplyCancel

    • Brittany - That look is priceless, isn’t it?ReplyCancel

  • Elizabeth (Mom) - Wow! I hadn’t realized that it had taken 17 years for Bruno to circumnavigate the globe. That redefines slow-travel! How long do you expect the 2nd around-the-world voyage to take?

Seeing some of the photos in this post brings back wonderful memories of our time with you in France last October. Sigh…..ReplyCancel

    • Brittany - Yes, arriving back in southern France brought on those same lovely memories for me!

In fact, when I met Bruno in Southern Africa, he’d technically finished his around-the-world trip because he’d been in South Africa on the first trip and was now returning. But as we approached southern France we realized that, in fact, his trip was TRULY completed now that he’d arrived at his point of departure. Pretty cool!!ReplyCancel

We were ahead of schedule on our overland transit to France – a detour to Switzerland was in order! This post describes our visit to a cheese factory, a medieval hilltop town, and a chocolate factory; our drive through the Alps, along Lac Lémont, and our view of Mont Blanc. Not bad for 55 hours in Switzerland, and not a bad way to celebrate a birthday!

    • Brittany - Oui, oui, on y a va! On a Presque fini tous les branches que tu m’a fais apporter au Canada, alors c’est le moment de revisiter M. Cailler! Heureusement on arrive dans quelques semaines! 🙂ReplyCancel

  • Elizabeth-Mom - From the perspective of other chocoholics in our family (and yes, I’m a huge fan), can’t think of a much better way to spend a birthday. But what an incredibly beautiful setting! You are so fortunate; thank you for sharing your birthday experience with us.ReplyCancel

    • Brittany - It was a special day, for sure! But then again, I can’t think of any day on the road that isn’t special in some way or another… Though, yes, chocolate does up the ante a bit!! 🙂ReplyCancel
