Tag Archives: Overlanding – The Jebel Akhdar mountain range reads like a tourist brochure – Oman’s highest mountain, its deepest wadi, its best fort, best cave, oldest ruins. Tourists flock here because it’s a way to see the greatest variety of Oman concentrated in a single region. We’re two more tourists here to check these sites off our list. Yet, it was the moments in between the sites that surprised us most.  I’ve only ever overlanded in Africa, a continent full of campsites. In the United Arab Emirates, where there are no campsites to speak of, I’m having overlander-adjustment issues. Sleeping in petrol stations, showering with bum-guns over mosque squat toilets, and using the toilet, ummm, whenever and wherever we can is going to take some getting used to.  Bruno met Josu and Ana, a couple of Basques traveling overland around the world, in Nepal. They re-met in India. Then in Pakistan, Mexico, Guatemala, and Colombia. And here, In a little campsite on the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya, they reunite on a third continent. That’s just how it rolls with overland roadies! |
