I am alive… I swear!

I just wanted to write briefly to let everyone know that I am alive and well – internet has simply been hard to find.
I am heading back to the Bangkok area today to go back and visit that school that I had seen briefly last week. I have spent the last 4 days in the southern area of Thailand – the first 3 in Hua Hin and the last day here in Phetburi. As I mentioned, I was hoping to go to the beach in Hua Hin. And I did on Sunday afternoon. But by Sunday night I was feeling quite sick, and by Monday, I couldn’t even get out of bed. I spent the entire day sleeping and feeling badly for myself. I think I had a 48 hour flu, if that exists. Strangely enough, by Tuesday morning I was fine (probably because I had slept so long) and so I did get to the beach again both in the morning and in the late afternoon. In between I went to an inteview at a school in Hua Hin. It was a nice school but there was nothing particularly special about it. Since I have seen such unique and excellent schools here in Thailand, this school didn’t really compare to it.
Yesterday I took a bus to Phetburi, a town only 2 hours south of Bangkok. It’s a medium-sized non-touristy town (in contrast with the very Western and expensive Hua Hin). I am visiting a rather nice school with a very nice staff and incredibly sweet Thai contact lady. The facilities here are very nice and there is an English Program (which means that students are taught several subjects in English, such as Math, Science, Social Studies). The town is both close to Bangkok and the beach so it’s very nicely located in Thailand. And…. the classrooms have AC!! The only thing is that the pay is pretty poor and there are no other benefits like a free fligh home or a swimming pool. And you have to work on Christmas Day!! So, I don’t know. I really just need to go back to this last school and get all the information I can. Then, when I go to Nepal I will sit back with this information, let it soak in, and hopefully the school I am meant to be at will become obvious.
Anyway, I know I haven’t really talked too much about Thai culture and aspects of my experience here that don’t have to do with schools I have visited. I promise that information will come! Maybe I will write a long entry on that topic this weekend when I have a little more time to relax. For now, I have to get a little more information about the school in my last hour here, and then I’m off to Bangkok for my last few days!
My friend Muna (who I am meeting up with in Nepal) has probably arrived in Kathmandu by now and I am so looking forward to seeing her, meeting her family, and actually getting to stay in one place for more than a day or two!
