The Mass Exodus

It seems that the more than happens in my life the less I write in my blog. Once again, it has been a whirlwind of a month. School is in full swing and so far I like my classes better than last year. Starting the schoolyear off with the children is the best way of not only developing a relationship with them, but also getting a routine going which helps me control and discipline the class better.
In addition to teaching, I am now helping with the school musical. I am the dance choreographer for “The Wiz”! It’s actually a lot of fun and is a great way for me to get to know another bunch of students that I wouldn’t otherwise encounter. We just finished auditions last week, including a 1 minute dance audition which I taught all the kids in an hour. Exhausting but definitely fun!
In other exciting news, I have moved into a new, and much improved apartment. So much more space for myself and Sammy. Photos to come!
The sad news is that there is a mass exodus of close friends. On Saturday, my friend Alex (the one who hosted us in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur last month) left to return to Singapore at the urging of her parents. So last week was busy with dinners, evenings out, and goodbye gatherings. Now, this week it’s Muna’s turn, as she leaves on Monday. She has gotten into Columbia’s MFA for Creative Writing and, as it’s been her lifelong dream, she just couldn’t say no. So next week she is returning to Nepal for a few weeks to get her visa in order and then by late July she will yet again be in the states!
So from next Monday, with Alex and Muna gone and me settling into a new place, life will be strangely different here. Maybe I’ll have more free time to blog!
